Super Bowl 2017 Updated Betting Odds: Has The Line Changed For Patriots vs. Falcons?

The Super Bowl betting odds often change in the days leading up to the big game, but that’s yet to happen in 2017. A week since the Super Bowl LI matchup was made official, the point spread is the same at most Las Vegas and online sportsbooks.

The New England Patriots remain three-point favorites over the Atlanta Falcons, via OddsShark. The moneyline is the same, as well, with the Patriots getting -155 odds and the Falcons being +135 underdogs.

New England was the better team all year, leading the NFL with a 14-2 regular-season record and finishing with three more wins than Atlanta. The Falcons, however, have been just as dominant in the playoffs, defeating the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers by a combined 39 points. New England beat the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers by 37 total points in two postseason games.

The over/under remains the highest in Super Bowl history. It appears to have settled at 59 at most Las Vegas casinos, though some online sportsbooks have the total listed at 58.8 or 59.5. Atlanta averaged 33.8 points per game in the regular season, ranking eighth in NFL history. Since Tom Brady returned from his suspension in Week 5, the Patriots have averaged 30.7 points in 14 contests.

If New England’s previous Super Bowl appearances are any indication, Sunday’s game could come down to the wire. All four of the team’s Super Bowl victories in the Brady-Belichick era have come by four points or fewer, and both of their Super Bowl losses were determined in the games’ final minute.

Only one of the last eight Super Bowls has been decided by three points or fewer, and just one Super Bowl since 2005 has totaled more than 59 points. The Green Bay Packers in 2011 were the last team to win the Super Bowl as favorites of three points or fewer.
